Absa Bank Ghana Limited supported the GirlCode Ghana 2026 hackathon in Accra, Ghana, aimed at developing young women’s digital skills and their participation in the digital economy. This was reported by MyJoyOnline.
Two days of team work
The event lasted two days and was part of the pan-African GirlCode Pan-African Hackathon initiative. Participants with different levels of experience worked in teams, identified problems and developed technological solutions with support from mentors and industry specialists.
In addition to programming and technical development, participants gained practical experience in teamwork, problem-solving, project presentations and entrepreneurial thinking.

Focus on access to technology
Justice Amegashi, Director of Information Technology and Operations at Absa Bank Ghana, urged participants to focus on solutions to real challenges in their communities and in Africa. He noted that artificial intelligence is lowering barriers for those who want to create technologies and seek solutions to complex problems.
Anita Twum-Ampofo, the bank’s Head of Technology and Service Management, said that developing women’s potential in the technology sector requires an ecosystem that combines knowledge, technology, mentorship and opportunities. According to her, support for the GirlCode Hackathon is part of the bank’s approach to expanding young people’s access, particularly that of women, to the digital economy.
