Adam Breitberg learned he had cancer while preparing his sister for surrogacy
Ellie Freeman became a surrogate mother for her twin brother Adam Breitberg and his husband Omer Kuchman. During preparations for the procedure, Ellie was found to have intestinal polyps, after which Adam underwent a colonoscopy and learned that he had colon cancer. Examinations before the procedure
Before the start of the surrogacy program, Ellie underwent routine blood tests. Her husband Elliot, who works as a gastroenterologist, noticed low ferritin levels and advised his wife to have a colonoscopy and gastroscopy.
During the examination, 21 polyps were found in Ellie’s colon. Because of this, her closest relatives also needed to undergo colonoscopies to rule out similar health issues.
Adam booked the procedure about a month later. According to him, the examination found polyps and a 10-centimeter mass, and he was also diagnosed with colon cancer. The planned embryo transfer was temporarily postponed so that he could undergo treatment.

Treatment and Gali’s birth
Adam consulted a doctor in Jerusalem and underwent surgery about a month later. Following tests and follow-up examinations, he said that he was in remission. Another month later, Ellie became pregnant with Adam and Omer’s child.
Adam and Ellie’s older sister Jess became the egg donor. According to Ellie, Australian law does not allow one person to be both a surrogate mother and an egg donor at the same time.
After the birth of the girl, Gali, she was immediately handed to Adam and Omer, who cut the umbilical cord. The parents plan to openly explain to their daughter that two aunts helped bring her into the world.
