An earthquake with a magnitude of 4.4 struck Romania

On the morning of Tuesday, August 25, an earthquake with a magnitude of 4.4 struck the Vrancea seismic zone in Romania.

According to the National Institute for Earth Physics Research of Romania (INCDFP), the earthquake was recorded at 4:56 a.m. local time. The epicenter was located at a depth of 145.2 kilometers.

The epicenter of the earthquake was located:

  • 57 km south of Focșani;
  • 57 km southeast of Sfântu Gheorghe;
  • 62 km south of Buzău;
  • 65 km east of Brașov;
  • 83 km northeast of Ploiești.

There are currently no reports of damage or casualties resulting from the earthquake.

Earlier on Sunday, a 5.9-magnitude earthquake struck near Tokyo, Japan. At least 37 people were injured, and one person was seriously injured.

In Colombia, following a 7.4-magnitude earthquake that occurred on August 10, approximately 1,700 megawatts of power were cut from the grid. More than 1.5 million households and businesses in seven departments of the country were left without power in the first few hours, according to The Rio Times, citing Colombia’s Ministry of Mining and Energy.
