Carrier stops deliveries to several remote towns in Tasmania
Residents of several remote localities in the Australian state of Tasmania said that Team Global Express has stopped delivering parcels directly to their homes, despite payment having been made for a “door-to-door” delivery service. This was reported by ABC News Australia.
Miena resident Michael Walls said he had previously regularly received shipments from Team Global Express. However, in recent months, the company began leaving his parcels at a depot in Cambridge near Hobart. A round trip there from Miena takes about four hours.
After a complaint, the company arranged for one shipment to be delivered by the state manager, but two more parcels remained at the depot. Walls is considering legal action because he believes the refusal to deliver may violate consumer protection legislation.
Customers are offered collection from depots
Colebrook resident Laurie Smyth ordered equipment bases from a company in Queensland. Team Global Express sent him a message requiring him to collect the cargo from the depot in Cambridge. According to Smyth, the seller confirmed that it had paid the carrier to deliver the goods to his door.

He was told that the cargo would be returned to the sender if he did not collect it within seven days. In the end, Smyth made a two-hour round trip to the depot near Hobart.
The company has also stopped deliveries to Miena, Liawenee, Waddamana, Levendale, Tunnack, Brady’s Lake, Bronte Park, Derwent Bridge, Lake St Clair, Maydena and Colebrook. Donna Barratt, the owner of a cafe and accommodation business in Maydena, organized a petition calling for deliveries to the community to be restored, which was signed by about 70 people. According to her, some residents do not have cars and cannot collect parcels themselves.
Company cites driver safety
Team Global Express, which is owned by Allegro Funds and operates in Australia and New Zealand, said it continues to serve most of Tasmania. A company representative explained the changes by operational difficulties and dangerous road conditions for drivers, especially in winter, in four postcodes in the Lakes area.
The company said that residents of Miena can choose an alternative collection point in Longford, Maydena residents can use one in Westerway, while recipients in Colebrook must collect shipments from the depot near Hobart. The carrier said it informs customers by phone after a parcel arrives at the depot and discusses alternative collection options with them.
