Trump administration proposes $103,265 fee for H-1B visas
The administration of US President Donald Trump has proposed setting a fee of $103,265 for new H-1B visas for highly skilled foreign workers. This is stated in a notice by the US Department of Homeland Security, Korea Herald reports.
Department proposal
The official publication of the notice in the Federal Register is scheduled for Tuesday. After that, the US Department of Homeland Security will accept public comments on the proposal for 30 days.
The H-1B program is intended for specialists in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. The department's notice states that the fee is intended to become a separate source of revenue that will help offset part of the federal costs of administering the legal immigration system.

Previous fee and program cap
According to Korea Herald, in June a federal judge ruled that this fee was unlawful. In September, Trump also signed a proclamation introducing an annual $100,000 fee for filing an application for an H-1B nonimmigrant visa. Under the terms of the document, it is set to expire next month.
The proposal was published amid the Trump administration's tightening of immigration controls as part of its America First policy. The H-1B program has an annual worldwide cap of 85,000 visas.
