Tallinn Airport sets passenger record in August
Tallinn Airport in Estonia handled nearly 390,000 passengers in August, marking the best monthly result in its history. The figure was 16% higher than in August of the previous year, ERR News reports.
In the first eight months of the year, the airport handled 2.54 million passengers, 11% more than during the same period last year. Low-cost airline Wizz Air, which actively expanded its presence in Tallinn throughout the year, contributed significantly to the increase in passenger traffic.
Airlines and popular destinations
In August, Wizz Air handled 18% of all airport passengers and offered flights to nine destinations. airBaltic remained the largest airline by market share, with 29%. In total, 19 carriers offered scheduled and charter flights from Tallinn to nearly 50 destinations.

Scheduled flights were used by 94% of passengers, while charter services accounted for another 6%. Charter flights were most frequently taken to Antalya, as well as to resort regions in Greece, Montenegro and Bulgaria. The most popular direct scheduled route in August was Warsaw, followed by Helsinki, Riga, Frankfurt and Stockholm.
Winter schedule
The number of takeoffs and landings in August increased by 5% year-on-year to 4,047 operations, or an average of 130 per day. Tallinn Airport management board member Eero Pärgmäe said that high demand for air travel persisted throughout the summer, and passengers responded positively to the increased number of flights and new routes.
The winter season will begin at the end of October, when the route network traditionally shrinks. At the same time, 39 destinations will be directly accessible from Tallinn. Eurowings will continue winter flights to Düsseldorf, airBaltic to Vienna and a total of 12 destinations, while Wizz Air will operate seven routes. During the Christmas travel season, Jet2.com will connect Tallinn with five cities in the United Kingdom, instead of three in the previous winter season.
