Amsterdam has banned advertising for meat and fossil fuels in public places

Amsterdam, the capital of the Netherlands, has become the first city in the world to ban public advertising of meat and products linked to fossil fuels.

This was reported by DW.

Starting May 1, advertisements for burgers, gasoline-powered cars, and airlines were removed from billboards, tram stops, and metro stations throughout the city.

City officials explain that this decision is intended to help achieve climate goals. Specifically, Amsterdam plans to become carbon-neutral by 2050 and to halve meat consumption among residents.

The restrictions were initiated by the local “Party for the Animals.” Its representative, Anke Bakker, stated that constant advertising shapes consumer habits and encourages purchases that harm the climate.

At the same time, the Dutch Meat Industry Association criticized the new measures, emphasizing that meat is an important source of nutrients and must remain accessible to consumers.

Similar restrictions have previously been introduced in certain cities in the Netherlands, but this is the first time such measures have been implemented at the national level.

The Dutch government is allocating an additional aid package of 248 million euros to provide the Ukrainian army with modern drones. The announcement was made by the country’s defense minister, Dilan Yesilgöz-Zegerius, at a regular meeting in the “Ramstein” format.

Meanwhile, Germany is strengthening Ukraine’s long-range capabilities through joint drone production.
