Antoni Vives called the crisis in Ceuta a geopolitical message from Morocco to Spain
Political analyst and former deputy mayor of Barcelona Antoni Vives, in a conversation with France 24 host Jenny Shin, stated that the migration crisis in Ceuta should not be explained solely as a humanitarian emergency or a spontaneous wave of migration.
According to Vives, these events should be viewed within a broader geopolitical context. He linked the crisis to the historical colonial legacy, demographic and economic inequality, as well as regional rivalry between Morocco and Algeria.

The analyst also noted that states can use migration as a political tool. Vives acknowledged the desire of young Moroccans to seek economic opportunities, but expressed the view that the scale and timing of the crossings indicate a deliberate geopolitical signal from Morocco to Spain.
