The Swedish Army has received its first Scania hybrid military truck for testing

The Swedish company Scania has delivered the first of three hybrid trucks to the Swedish Defense Materiel Administration (FMV) for testing by the country’s Armed Forces. The handover took place during the Eurosatory 2026 international exhibition in Paris. 

The new vehicles were purchased as part of a joint development project between Scania, the FMV, and the military to assess the potential of hybrid technologies in logistics and field operations. The vehicle is based on a parallel hybrid system, in which a diesel engine and an electric motor with torque up to 2,800 Nm can operate separately or together. The range in silent electric mode is 70–80 km, allowing for covert movement near military positions.

A unique feature of the platform is the ability to use the truck as a mobile power station. The 208 kWh battery can silently provide up to four hours of continuous power to command posts, communications facilities, or field camps without the need for external generators. If the tests are successful, the Swedish Army plans to purchase a large batch of these vehicles, which are expected to be cheaper to operate than standard diesel versions.

Recently, the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense codified and approved for use in the Armed Forces of Ukraine three fiber-optic FPV systems manufactured by enterprises of JSC “Ukrainian Defense Industry.”

Prior to this, the Ministry of Defense had standardized and approved the domestic “Volynyaka” unmanned aerial vehicle system for use by the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

Earlier, the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine approved the Shablya MK19(M) remotely controlled combat module for use by the armed forces. It is equipped with an MK19 40-mm automatic grenade launcher.
