Ukraine has exposed a new Russian disinformation campaign in Europe
Ukraine has uncovered a large-scale Russian disinformation campaign linked to the migration crisis in the Spanish enclave of Ceuta. According to the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, pro-Russian media outlets have published thousands of articles in an attempt to exploit this sensitive issue to heighten tensions in Europe.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga stated that Moscow is once again using migration and other socially significant issues to spread fear and destabilize the region. He called on European countries to step up their efforts to combat Russian propaganda.
Ukraine has uncovered an active Russian propaganda campaign in which the migration crisis in the Spanish enclave of Ceuta is being used to influence public opinion in Europe. According to the foreign minister, Ukrainian analysts have uncovered a pro-Russian network of news outlets led by the Russian media projects “Pravda” and RT. These platforms actively disseminated content about the situation in Ceuta.
Analysts estimate that the network published over 1,500 articles on this topic. Among them, about 300 were published in the Spanish-language version of “Pravda.” Sibiga noted that this is not the first time Russia has used migration issues for information influence. According to him, for years the Kremlin has been trying to exploit topics that evoke strong emotions in society to amplify fears and create tension within European countries. “The issue is not the situation itself, but rather how Russia tries to exploit any topic that might serve its interests,” the minister stated.
He emphasized that combating such campaigns is crucial for protecting society from external information influence. “The only way to protect the public from such interference is to stop it,” Sibiga added.
The head of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry also called on European partners to completely ban Russian propaganda outlets, which, he said, are used by the Kremlin as a tool of influence. The migration crisis in Ceuta has become yet another issue that Russia is attempting to exploit in its information campaigns. The Ukrainian side emphasizes that such actions are directed not only against individual countries but also against the stability of Europe as a whole. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga reported this on the social media platform X.
Russian authorities continue to promote the state-run messaging app Max. Starting in August, users will be able to use its basic features for free without using up their mobile data allowance. The service has signed an agreement to this effect with the four largest mobile operators in the Russian Federation.
