Ghana Journalists Association opens entries for 30th media awards
The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has opened entries for the 30th GJA Media Awards and introduced two new categories. Association President Albert Kwabena Dwumfour announced this at a press conference in Accra on September 3, 2026, MyJoyOnline reports.
Submission deadlines and conditions
Entries will be accepted until 23:59 on Friday, September 18, 2026. Dwumfour stressed that there would be no extension and urged applicants to submit their work early.
Participation is available only to GJA members in good standing with the association. Materials published or broadcast between January 1 and December 31, 2025, will be accepted for consideration. Applications can be submitted online through the official GJA website, which also hosts the entry form for the 2026 awards.
New and discontinued categories
The awards list has been expanded with the Bank of Ghana Governor’s Economic and Financial Story of the Year (GEFSY) category, dedicated to economic and financial stories, as well as Best Digital and New Media Platform, for digital and new media platforms. The association said the new categories are intended to reflect current trends and important areas of the media industry.

At the same time, the GJA has discontinued the “Female Journalist of the Year” category. According to the association’s president, the changes are based on proposals and recommendations from GJA members who took part in reviewing and improving the awards.
Ceremony in Accra
The ceremony for the 30th GJA Media Awards is planned to be held in Accra in October 2026. The awards will recognize journalistic work that has contributed to democracy, development, good governance and public discourse in Ghana.
Alongside the opening of entries, the GJA unveiled a new official website. The platform will contain statements, press releases, information on programmes, training, events, membership, journalists’ safety and the defence of press freedom.
