Baku denies that Israeli troops are stationed in Azerbaijan

The Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs has denied CNN’s reports that the country’s territory is being used for military or intelligence operations against Iran and that Israeli forces are stationed on Azerbaijani territory, calling the claims “completely baseless.”

This was stated in a comment by Ayhan Hajizade, head of the press service of the Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The spokesperson for the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry noted that the publication of claims “based on anonymous sources, without any substantial evidence and without taking into account Azerbaijan’s official position” contradicts the principles of objectivity, impartiality, and journalistic ethics.

Hajizade added that there is no basis for claims that Azerbaijani territory is being used for military operations, intelligence activities, or other hostile purposes against any third country, and assured that the country “has never allowed and will never allow” such actions.

“Azerbaijan is committed to promoting peace, stability, and good-neighborly relations in the region. Such baseless and unsubstantiated claims are yet another attempt at disinformation. We expect CNN to retract this publication, which contains unfounded allegations,” the statement said.

This was reported by Azertaj.

As a reminder, Azerbaijan is a long-standing purchaser of Israeli weapons, in particular, it uses Israeli IAI Harop drones. It should be noted that the use of Israeli UAVs by the Azerbaijani military was known earlier—in particular, these very drones significantly contributed to the successful conclusion of Operation “Iron Fist” for Azerbaijan in the fall of 2020.

Previously, Azerbaijan purchased the latest Israeli Sea Breaker anti-ship missiles.
