Berri and Araghchi discuss Israeli attacks on Lebanon
Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi discussed ongoing Israeli attacks on Lebanon and violations of ceasefire arrangements during a telephone conversation. This was reported by Anadolu Agency.
Call to halt hostilities
According to a statement by Berri’s office, the speaker stressed that Israel’s continued attacks and the destruction of towns and villages in southern Lebanon require action to halt hostilities. He also warned of the “dangerous consequences” of regional and international inaction regarding these attacks.
The parties discussed the situation in Lebanon and the wider region, as well as efforts to support regional security and stability. They also separately addressed developments in the Persian Gulf countries and Iran’s increased cooperation with Arab and Muslim states, including the member states of the Gulf Cooperation Council.

Framework agreement
Berri thanked Iran for its support for Lebanon and said that Tehran continues to regard ending Israeli attacks on the country as a priority within the framework of a memorandum of understanding with the United States.
Since October 2023, Lebanon has suffered two deadly attacks that caused widespread destruction, significant damage to infrastructure and housing, and worsened the country’s economic losses. On June 26, Lebanon and Israel signed a U.S.-backed framework agreement in Washington that provides for the gradual withdrawal of Israeli troops from Lebanese territory and the deployment of the Lebanese army in areas vacated by Israeli forces.
Despite the agreement, Israel, according to the agency, continues attacks on southern Lebanon and retains areas in the south of the country: some of them for decades, while others were seized during recent wars and military operations.
