Migrants who had been adrift in the Mediterranean Sea for two weeks were rescued off the coast of Mallorca
On the morning of August 4, 2026, Spanish rescue workers found and evacuated two migrants of Maghreb origin who had been adrift in the Mediterranean Sea for about two weeks. The men were found near the coast of the island of Mallorca and handed over to emergency services.
The rescued migrants had to be taken to a hospital due to signs of dehydration and malnutrition.
The rescue operation took place around 3:00 a.m., and both migrants were evacuated to a hospital in Palma to receive medical care.
According to their accounts, they had likely been adrift at sea for 15 days.
The two men said they had been traveling on the boat with 17 other people who died during the crossing.
The Maritime Rescue Service deployed its Helimer helicopter to survey the surrounding area in search of the missing and also alerted mariners to the incident, according to EFE.
