Kazakhstan plans to charge foreigners an entry fee
Kazakhstan is preparing to introduce a fee-based electronic entry permit for foreign citizens. The Ministry of Internal Affairs has drafted the relevant amendments, and the document is open for public comment through August 17, 2026.
The fee for processing the permit has not yet been determined. The Ministry of Internal Affairs explained that the funds raised are intended to be used for maintaining digital systems and protecting personal data.
The ministry believes that the new system will make immigration control more transparent and allow for more effective tracking of foreign nationals’ movements. The plan is to roll out the electronic permits in phases—from August through December 2026.
In late July, Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev reported that most tourists currently visiting the country come from Russia, followed by China and India.
