Hurricane Rachel has strengthened to Category 1 in the Pacific Ocean near Mexico’s coast. Anadolu Agency reports, citing Mexico’s National Civil Protection Coordination.
Location and strength of the hurricane
According to the coordination, Rachel reached Category 1 at 00:00 on Wednesday. The hurricane was located 365 kilometers south-southwest of Cabo Corrientes in the state of Jalisco and 495 kilometers west of the port city of Lázaro Cárdenas in the state of Michoacán.
The hurricane was moving northwest at a speed of 19 kilometers per hour. Maximum sustained wind speeds reached 120 kilometers per hour, with gusts of up to 150 kilometers per hour.

Movement forecast
According to the National Civil Protection Coordination, Rachel is expected to maintain its northwestern course and gradually move away from the country’s Pacific coast. The projected track indicates that the system will remain over the ocean and will not make landfall in Mexico.
