Two pilots eject during landing off Virginia — The Hill

Off the coast of the U.S. state of Virginia, two Navy aviators ejected from an aircraft while landing on the aircraft carrier USS Dwight D. Eisenhower. Four people aboard the ship were also injured in the incident, The Hill reports, citing the U.S. Navy.

Aviators returned to the ship

The incident occurred at approximately 6:18 p.m. Eastern Time on Monday during aircraft recovery operations. Both aviators from Carrier Air Wing 3 ejected from the aircraft and were then evacuated by search-and-rescue forces.

According to the U.S. Navy, both aviators were safely returned to the aircraft carrier. They are undergoing medical evaluation.

One sailor hospitalized

Four people aboard the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower sustained injuries during the incident. One sailor was taken to a hospital in the Norfolk area for treatment of injuries that, according to the U.S. Navy's assessment, are not life-threatening.

The Nimitz-class USS Dwight D. Eisenhower is the flagship of Carrier Strike Group 2, led by Rear Adm. P. Scott Miller. The ship's home port is Norfolk, Virginia.
