Belarus has begun military exercises near the borders of Poland and Lithuania

On September 15, four-day military exercises began in Belarus near the borders with Poland and Lithuania. The exercises are being conducted in close proximity to the borders of both countries.

According to Belarusian officials, the purpose of the exercises is to prepare commanders and units for “jointly carrying out tasks during the preparation and conduct of a strategic operation.”

According to a statement from the Belarusian Ministry, the exercises are taking place from September 15 to 18. Field exercises are scheduled to take place at the Gozha training ground in the Grodno region, located directly on the border with Lithuania, as well as at the Brest and Ruzhany training grounds in the Brest region, located approximately 15 km and 60 km from the Polish border (and approximately 150 km and 40 km from the Ukrainian border), respectively.

Mechanized and tank battalions are participating in the maneuvers. According to the statement, the troops’ tasks include “defending the state border, combating sabotage groups, and repelling attacks involving drones and light aircraft.”

The Belarusian side insists that the exercises are “exclusively defensive” in nature.

As a reminder, Lukashenko expressed concern that Belarus was turning into a casino.

In the Gomel region of Belarus, near the Yakimovka station, a new military training ground is being built with railway infrastructure capable of facilitating the rapid movement of heavy equipment. The facility is located approximately 40 km from the Ukrainian border, and its construction is confirmed by satellite imagery and government procurement data.
