Most Americans do not understand the U.S. objectives in the conflict with Iran, according to Reuters
U.S. President Donald Trump has failed to convince Americans of the need for war with Iran. Most citizens said the White House has yet to explain the true objectives of the conflict, and the economic consequences of the hostilities have already seriously impacted the public’s well-being.
This is evidenced by the results of a Reuters/Ipsos poll.
According to the survey, 66% of Americans believe that Trump failed to clearly explain the reasons for U.S. military intervention in Iran. Nearly all Democratic Party supporters and even some Republicans share this view.
Respondents stated that the president “did not clearly explain the goals of U.S. military involvement in Iran.”
Amid the conflict, Americans are feeling increasing economic pressure. Due to the rapid rise in gas prices, 63% of those surveyed reported a deterioration in their financial situation.
Back in March, 55% of citizens spoke of problems caused by high fuel prices, but the situation has only worsened in recent months.
The poll also showed that Americans hold the government responsible for the crisis. Three-quarters of respondents believe the Trump administration is to blame for the sharp rise in fuel prices.
At the same time, 65% of those surveyed blame the Republican Party for the situation, while only 27% hold Democrats responsible.
Analysts note that the poll results serve as a serious warning to Trump’s allies ahead of the congressional elections. Republicans risk losing voter support due to dissatisfaction with the war and the economic consequences of the conflict with Iran.
U.S. President Donald Trump has intensified discussions about resuming full-scale hostilities against Iran amid the stagnation of the negotiation process.
