Bulgaria announced that U.S. aircraft at the Bezmer base are being used for logistical purposes
Bulgaria has stated that the U.S. refueling aircraft, which are scheduled to be temporarily stationed at the Bezmer Air Base, will perform exclusively logistical tasks. Prime Minister Rumen Radev emphasized that conducting military operations in the Middle East from Bulgarian territory is “categorically ruled out.”
According to him, the refueling aircraft are intended solely for logistical missions, and refueling will take place outside Bulgarian airspace. This was reported by “European Truth” with reference to Reuters.
On July 20, Radev stated that he would ask parliament to approve the deployment of up to eight U.S. refueling aircraft at an airbase in the country. Following this, a spokesperson for the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs warned Bulgaria against granting the United States permission to use its territory for military operations against Iran.
The spokesperson stated that any activity facilitating U.S. attacks on Iran constitutes complicity in what he called “aggression and war crimes.” Meanwhile, on July 21, Bulgaria’s parliamentary defense committee approved a government proposal to temporarily station U.S. refueling aircraft and military personnel at the Bezmer base.
