Britain is preparing a summit to unblock the Strait of Hormuz — Politico

The United Kingdom plans to convene a meeting in the near future of countries interested in restoring safe navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.

Politico reports this, citing British officials.

The security summit is expected to take place in London or in Portsmouth, where the Royal Navy is based.

Earlier, more than 30 countries, including the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, and the Netherlands, signed a joint statement expressing their readiness to take measures to protect shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. The threat to this route has increased amid the conflict between the United States, Israel, and Iran.

According to a British official, London is seeking to form an international coalition to open a safe passage through the strait. Among the possible steps being considered is the deployment of autonomous mine-hunting systems; however, this is complicated by the high intensity of hostilities.

Efforts to restore shipping are currently being led by NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, despite a cautious approach from some allies.
