CBC in Canada reportedly suspends journalist after protest video — Jerusalem Post
Canada’s public broadcaster CBC, according to local media reports, has suspended journalist and producer Neil Herland from the air and summoned him to a disciplinary hearing. This happened after he recorded and shared a video of a protest outside a Yom Kippur service in Toronto, the Jerusalem Post reports.

Herland, whom the publication describes as an award-winning Jewish CBC journalist, arrived at the Meridian Arts Center in northern Toronto. According to him, about two dozen pro-Palestinian demonstrators were outside the building.
In posts on the social network X, the journalist said that the participants in the action tried to intimidate people heading to the building. In the video he shared, protesters shouted through loudspeakers, among other things, “Zionist alert,” “baby killer,” and “You’re going to hell.” Herland also said that his post received millions of views.

Activists’ complaint and IPG statement
After the video was shared, the organization Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East filed a complaint with CBC. It claimed that Herland had spread false information discrediting pro-Palestinian activists and stated that he was heading to the Meridian Arts Center for an appearance by former Israeli ambassador to the United Kingdom Mark Regev.
The Independent Press Gallery condemned CBC’s actions, stating that documenting events in a public place and reporting on them is journalistic work, not a violation. The organization also called on the Canadian Media Guild, the Canadian Association of Journalists, and the Parliamentary Press Gallery to support Herland.
The Jerusalem Post notes that social media users reported that a service of The Song Shul community was being held at the Meridian Arts Center. The community itself had not responded to the publication’s request to confirm this information by the time of publication.
