Free sharing of unwanted items launched in Kourion, Cyprus — Cyprus Mail
The municipality of Kourion in Cyprus has launched the FreeCycle Kourion community initiative, under which residents can give away unwanted but usable household items to others for free. As Cyprus Mail reports, a Facebook group was created for this purpose at the beginning of the month.
Community founder and administrator Bux Pulling explained that he decided to create a local platform after seeing how many usable items accumulate in homes. Members of the group can offer chairs, household appliances, toys, garden equipment or glassware, among other items.
Giving items to municipality residents
The initiative is primarily intended for residents of the Kourion municipality. When applying to join, users must specify their community of residence, and applications are approved by administrators. Items should generally be available for collection within the municipality so that exchanges remain local and do not require long trips.
FreeCycle Kourion currently has 23 active members, while another 29 people have been invited to join. Joining the group does not oblige members to give away their own items: participants can also request items they need.

Safety rules and ban on sales
The group allows members to offer working and safe household electrical appliances, including kettles, toasters, lamps, televisions and small kitchen appliances. Owners must honestly describe an item's condition and disclose known faults, damage or missing parts. Appliances with damaged cables, exposed wires or other dangerous defects may not be offered.
The community does not inspect, test or certify electrical appliances. The person giving away an item is responsible for describing its condition, and recipients are advised to verify its safety themselves before use.
Sales, bartering, transfers in exchange for money or other items, as well as commercial advertising, are prohibited in FreeCycle Kourion. It is not permitted to offer rubbish, items intended for recycling or disposal, illegal goods, or items unsuitable for community exchange. Administrators may remove posts that violate the rules and exclude members for repeated violations. The item's owner decides independently whom to give it to.
