Will there be a holiday in Poland on Easter?

In Poland, as in other Catholic countries, Easter will be celebrated on April 5 this year. However, not everyone knows whether the following day—Monday—will be a holiday, or how stores will operate during this period.

April 6, 2026, is an official holiday in Poland, and this date falls on the second day of the Easter celebration, according to InPoland.

Will stores in Poland be open on Easter?

April 6 this year falls on Easter Monday (Poniedziałek Wielkanocny), which is considered a public holiday in Poland and is therefore a non-working day by law.

Easter in this country is traditionally celebrated over two days—on Sunday, which falls on April 5 in 2026, and on Monday. Be prepared for the fact that most government offices, businesses, and stores will either be closed entirely or have a shortened workday on this day.

By the way, Easter Monday in Poland also holds significant cultural importance and is also called “Wet Monday”—it is on this day that there is a tradition of splashing people with water as a symbol of renewal and purification. Poles usually spend this very popular holiday with family or on vacation. So, it’s worth keeping this holiday in mind when planning travel, shopping, and work.

The Easter period in Poland begins on Ash Wednesday, which this year fell on February 18. Lent lasts 40 days—until the holiday. Interestingly, there are actually 46 days between Ash Wednesday and Easter, but Lent lasts only 40 days, excluding Sundays, according to "Shop in Poland."
