Montenegro blocked a charter flight from Serbia; 90 passengers were deported

A high-profile incident involving a charter flight from Belgrade occurred at Tivat Airport in Montenegro. Local law enforcement and security services blocked the plane after it landed and denied entry to all 90 Serbian citizens on board.

The incident occurred on June 3 at approximately 10:41 a.m. local time, when an Air Serbia Embraer E195 aircraft arrived in Tivat.

According to local sources, the inspection was conducted as part of heightened security measures ahead of the summit of EU and Western Balkan leaders.

The plane, which was scheduled to return to Belgrade less than an hour after arrival, was detained for a thorough passenger screening.

It is reported that some of the arrivals refused to answer questions from border guards and police regarding the purpose of their visit to Montenegro, which raised further suspicions among law enforcement officials.

According to journalists, most of the passengers were young men of athletic build, some of whom were allegedly already on the radar of law enforcement agencies.

Sources within law enforcement claim that among the arrivals were individuals with criminal records and those who had previously drawn the interest of intelligence agencies.

According to preliminary data, the group allegedly arrived in Montenegro under the pretext of providing security during Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić’s visit to an international summit.

However, the Montenegrin side viewed this activity as a potential security threat and a possible element of hybrid influence.

After the checks were completed, all 90 Serbian citizens were officially denied entry into Montenegro.

They were deported back to Belgrade on the same plane.

Throughout the screening process, passengers remained in an isolated area of the airport under tight security by armed police and intelligence agency personnel.

Despite the scale of the operation and heightened security measures, the incident passed without clashes, conflicts, or public order disturbances.

Montenegrin police confirmed that special measures were taken, noting that they were related to ensuring security during a high-level international event.

This was reported by the publication Vijesti.me.

As a reminder, the European Union has officially begun drafting an accession agreement with Montenegro, marking the country’s transition to the final stage of European integration.

Ukraine hopes that the European Union will open all six negotiation chapters on the country’s accession this year and anticipates the possibility of closing at least one of them by the end of the year.

Ukraine may temporarily forgo some of the benefits of EU membership to accelerate the accession process. Taras Kachka noted that such a step would help the country integrate into the EU more quickly.
