Riigikogu Member Kalev Stoicescu has joined Parempoolsed
Estonian Member of Parliament Kalev Stoicescu, who left Eesti 200—the junior partner in the governing coalition—last week, has joined the extra-parliamentary party Parempoolsed, according to ERR News.
Stoicescu stated that Estonian politics needs Parempoolsed and emphasized the need to prevent future generations from paying for a lifestyle beyond their means. He also plans to remain actively involved in issues related to Estonia’s foreign and defense policies.
According to the politician, the country is at a turning point. He noted that Estonia must remain a champion of Western values, improve well-being, and strengthen comprehensive national defense, despite its proximity to an aggressive neighbor.

Stoicescu will run on the Parempoolsed ticket in the 2027 Riigikogu elections. Party leader Lavli Perling welcomed his decision and stated that Stoicescu’s expertise in foreign policy and security will strengthen the party’s political expertise.
Before embarking on his political career, Stoicescu worked for several decades in Estonia’s ministries of foreign affairs and defense, including a stint as the country’s ambassador to the United States. He later worked as a researcher at the International Center for Defense and Security. For the past three and a half years, Stoicescu has chaired the Riigikogu’s National Defense Committee.
According to ERR News, Parempoolsed currently polls above the electoral threshold and is expected to win seats in the upcoming elections in March. Eesti 200, which won its first seats in the Riigikogu in 2023, is currently polling below that threshold.
