Ghana’s State Housing Company launches audit, gives 21 days to formalize rights — MyJoyOnline

In Ghana, the state-owned housing company State Housing Company Limited (SHC) has launched a nationwide audit and measures to recover land and real estate used by people without valid legal grounds. MyJoyOnline reports this.

Who the audit concerns

According to SHC, the audit will cover people occupying the company’s land without proper documents, encroaching on its property, or continuing to use properties after the expiry of leases or other property rights. It will also concern developments carried out without the required approvals.

The company said it would examine cases of transfer, subletting, disposal or other transactions involving its property without the required authorization. Those concerned must provide lease agreements, property allocation documents, payment records and other relevant papers for verification.

Deadline for formalizing rights

SHC has given 21 days from September 24, 2026, to formalize the use of property or rights to it, where permitted by law. Where there are appropriate grounds, an application may also be submitted to renew an expired lease, or the property may be vacated.

The company warned that people without valid rights to its property who fail to comply with the requirements within the set period may face legal action to recover the property and other measures provided for by law. SHC also advised against buying, leasing, developing or conducting other transactions involving its land without first verifying the owner, the property’s status and the intermediary’s authority.
