Body of Toro King Oyo Nyimba returned to Uganda before burial
The body of Toro King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV was brought to Uganda on September 4. He died on August 27 in the United States, where he was receiving cancer treatment. The monarch’s burial is scheduled for September 12, Nation Kenya reports.
Ceremony at Entebbe Airport
The coffin carrying the body of the 34-year-old king was delivered by charter flight to Entebbe International Airport. Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni, members of the royal family and other high-ranking guests attended the reception ceremony.
Museveni laid a wreath on the coffin, which was covered with the flags of Uganda and the Toro Kingdom, and bowed his head. The coffin was then transported by military helicopter to the Toro Kingdom in the west of the country, near the Rwenzori Mountains. Official mourning events will begin there and continue until the day of the burial.

A monarch from the age of three
Oyo Nyimba ascended the throne in 1995 at the age of three, becoming the world’s youngest reigning monarch. In footage from his enthronement ceremony, he sits in a royal chair playing with a toy, wearing a large crown and robe.
Uganda is a constitutional republic in which executive power belongs to the elected head of state. At the same time, traditional monarchies that existed before the colonial period retain significant cultural and social influence.
The king was also a UN ambassador and supported the fight against HIV and AIDS; the United Nations honored his memory. The kingdom’s prime minister, Kelvin Armstrong Rwomire Akiiki, previously stated that the unmarried monarch left an heir, ensuring the succession of the crown.
