Dodon Called for Early Elections Following the Resignation of Moldova's Prime Minister
Igor Dodon, the pro-Russian former president of Moldova and leader of the Party of Socialists, called for early parliamentary elections on July 3 following the prime minister’s unexpected resignation. He stated that the current government has lost the trust of the citizens and needs to be renewed.
Dodon expressed the view that Alexandru Munteanu’s resignation signals “the beginning of the end” for Maia Sandu and the “Action and Solidarity” party’s time in power, and called for early parliamentary elections.
“Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu jumped ship just in time—it turned out to be rotten to the core. He made the right decision, realizing there was no one left to work with there. And this is just the beginning of the end for the most cynical, hypocritical, and corrupt government in the country’s history,” the Socialist leader stated.
“The public is waiting for and demanding early elections. Let there be early elections,” he added.
As a reminder, Moldova has seen a sudden change in its head of government.
