The wives of Chemezov and Peskov are challenging the sanctions in the EU Court
New lawsuits have been filed with the Court of Justice of the European Union seeking to lift personal restrictions against family members of high-ranking Russian officials. Specifically, an official complaint against the Council of the EU was filed by Tatyana Navka, the wife of Putin’s press secretary Dmitry Peskov, as well as Katerina Ignatova, the wife of Rostec CEO Sergey Chemezov, along with the official’s stepdaughter Anastasia Ignatova.
This is evidenced by official updates in the Brussels court database.
The plaintiffs own significant financial and property assets, which are currently frozen by European governments due to sanctions. According to the latest public declarations, the annual income of the wife of the Rostec head exceeded $24 million, and her daughter controls assets worth hundreds of millions of dollars through offshore companies abroad. Among the seized assets of Chemezov’s stepdaughter is the 85-meter superyacht Valerie, whose market value is estimated at approximately $140 million.
A similar lawsuit to lift European restrictions was filed by Russian Olympic champion Tatiana Navka, who is the wife of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s press secretary, Dmitry Peskov. She was subject to asset freezes and a travel ban in June 2022 as part of the European Union’s sixth package of restrictive measures. In the current EU Council decision, the grounds for the sanctions are cited as her direct connection to real estate in occupied Crimea, as well as her proximity to individuals who materially or politically support actions that threaten Ukraine’s territorial integrity and sovereignty.
The Court of Justice of the European Union has rejected the requests of Russian oligarchs Gennady Timchenko, Elena Timchenko, Mikhail Fridman, Petr Aven, and German Khan to lift European sanctions.
The Court of Justice of the European Union has lifted sanctions against former Motor Sich president Vyacheslav Boguslaev. European judges ruled that his name must be removed from the EU sanctions list.
