Egypt discusses de-escalating tensions with Gulf countries — Asharq Al-Awsat

Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty held telephone conversations with the heads of the foreign ministries of Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates regarding regional tensions and diplomatic ways to reduce them.

As Asharq Al-Awsat reports, during a conversation with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan, Abdelatty discussed the situation in Yemen, Iran and the Red Sea region. The ministers also agreed on the need to preserve freedom of navigation in the Red Sea and the Bab el-Mandeb Strait.

Support for Saudi Arabia's security

Abdelatty stated Cairo's support for Saudi Arabia's security and stability. He also confirmed the unacceptability of attacks on the kingdom's territory or attempts to undermine its security.

In a conversation with Qatar's prime minister and foreign minister, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, the Egyptian minister discussed the crisis surrounding Iran and the recent escalation in the region. Abdelatty emphasized the importance of political and diplomatic settlement paths that should contribute to regional security and stability.

Contacts with the UAE and the US

During a telephone conversation with UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abdelatty discussed strengthening strategic ties between the countries and stepping up efforts toward de-escalation and the political settlement of conflicts.

Separately, the head of Egyptian diplomacy spoke with Massad Boulos, senior adviser to the US president for Arab and African affairs. Among the topics was the situation in Sudan, where Cairo emphasized the importance of preserving the unity and sovereignty of states and protecting their legitimate national institutions. The day before, Abdelatty also held a meeting with Foreign Ministry officials on diplomatic efforts for the peaceful settlement of conflicts and preventing their spread.
