The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has sharply criticized Somaliland’s intention to open a diplomatic mission in Jerusalem, calling it a violation of international law.
This is stated in a statement by the Egyptian Foreign Ministry.
Cairo stated that such a move contradicts relevant UN resolutions and undermines the legal and historical status of Jerusalem.
“Egypt completely rejects any unilateral actions aimed at creating an illegal reality in Jerusalem,” the ministry emphasized.
The Egyptian Foreign Ministry also stressed that East Jerusalem has been considered occupied Palestinian territory since 1967, and any attempts to change the city’s status have no legal force.
Separately, Cairo expressed support for Somalia’s territorial integrity, calling Somaliland an unrecognized separatist region.
On December 26, 2025, the Israeli government officially recognized the Republic of Somaliland as a sovereign state by signing a joint declaration establishing full diplomatic relations. This decision sparked a sharp reaction around the world.
