Former French President François Hollande said he does not rule out running in the 2027 presidential election. He made the statement during a private meeting with supporters at the Senate.
According to Politico, the 71-year-old politician said he already has experience leading the country and “could be useful” to France during the next presidential campaign.
Hollande also noted that, in his opinion, voters will primarily assess the candidates’ ability to effectively govern the country, and the final course of the campaign will be determined late this year and early next year.
At the same time, the publication notes that the former president’s chances of returning to the Élysée Palace remain slim for now. Although his personal approval rating has risen in recent years, opinion polls show him with less than 10% support as a potential candidate for the Socialist Party.
The Socialists are currently preparing to hold internal party primaries in October; however, according to Politico, Hollande does not plan to participate in them and is counting on a different scenario.
