Angie Nixon won the Democratic primary for the U.S. Senate in Florida
Florida State Legislator Angie Nixon won the Democratic Party primary for the U.S. Senate election. She defeated former military intelligence officer Alexander Windman and became the Democratic nominee for the general election in November, according to The Guardian.

According to Florida Politics, at the end of July, Nixon’s campaign had $975,000 in funding, while Windman’s campaign had $16.3 million. Windman previously gained notoriety as the whistleblower in the case that led to Donald Trump’s first impeachment in 2019. According to a source, the case involved the U.S. president’s attempt to withhold military aid to Ukraine.
In the general election in November, Nixon will face Republican Ashley Moody. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis appointed Moody to replace Marco Rubio after he became U.S. Secretary of State last year. Moody won the Republican Party primary. The winner of the November election will serve for the remaining two years of Rubio’s Senate term.
