EU pledges more than €710 million in humanitarian aid — Al Jazeera English
The European Union has pledged more than €710 million in humanitarian aid to people affected by crises, natural disasters and conflicts in different regions of the world, primarily in Africa. This was reported by Al Jazeera English.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said that conflicts, extreme weather events and the rising cost of living are destabilizing the lives of many people around the world. According to her, the aid should support displaced communities in Africa and the communities hosting them.
Funding for Africa
According to the European Commission, €380 million has been allocated for migration-related measures in countries in sub-Saharan Africa. The funds are planned to be used to protect vulnerable migrants and support voluntary return and reintegration.
Another €97 million will be directed toward responding to humanitarian needs exacerbated by conflicts, food insecurity, malnutrition and climate shocks in several regions. The package is also intended to strengthen the response to the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and neighboring countries.

Assistance for Ukraine and the Middle East
The Palestinian territories and Lebanon will receive €103 million to support vulnerable population groups. For Ukraine, the EU has allocated €52 million in humanitarian aid and funding for emergency preparedness.
The European Commission also announced three new investments under Global Gateway: an EU guarantee to mobilize private investment in healthcare and nutrition businesses in sub-Saharan Africa, a European Investment Bank loan to expand the production of vaccines and biological medicines in Colombia, and €60 million to strengthen primary healthcare in Ethiopia.
