The EU has extended sanctions against those involved in human rights violations in Russia
The Council of the European Union has extended until May 28, 2027, the sanctions regime targeting individuals responsible for human rights violations, repression against the population and the democratic opposition, as well as the undermining of democracy and the rule of law in the Russian Federation.
This is stated in a statement by the Council of the EU.
Currently, 72 individuals and one legal entity are subject to EU restrictions.
The sanctions include asset freezes, a ban on EU citizens and companies providing funds to those on the list, and a travel ban to EU countries.
The EU Council emphasized that the EU continues to condemn human rights violations and repression in Russia, and expresses concern over the further deterioration of the situation, particularly against the backdrop of the war against Ukraine.
The EU is changing its procurement rules to reduce dependence on China.
As a reminder, the U.S. and China have agreed to mutually reduce tariffs.
