The EU has called on Georgia to join the sanctions against Russia

The EU has called on Georgia to join the sanctions against Russia

Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili stated that the European Union has set a number of conditions for Tbilisi to maintain the visa-free regime. According to him, Brussels’ demands include Georgia’s participation in the sanctions policy against Russia.

According to Papuashvili, EU representatives made it clear that the visa-free regime could be maintained only if Tbilisi joins the anti-Russian sanctions. The Speaker of Parliament complained about this demand.

They tell us: if we want visa-free travel, we must impose sanctions against Russia—in other words, commit suicide. If we destroy ourselves, who will be able to travel to the European Union without a visa? Let them explain this to us,” Papuashvili complained during a conversation with journalists.

He also accused Brussels of attempting to turn the issue of visa-free travel into a political tool for exerting pressure.

Earlier, the Georgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that the next round of consultations with the European side on the visa-free regime will take place on June 11 in Brussels.

This is reported by Russian propaganda media.
