The EU will enlist YouTubers and TikTokers to cover its summits – Politico
The Council of the EU plans to invite well-known YouTubers and TikTokers to create video content during European leaders’ summits and ministerial meetings in Brussels starting in July. The main requirement for creators is that they must not hold views that contradict the values of the European Union.
According to the guidelines, member states are to independently select content creators with political experience and a significant audience relative to their country’s population.
Applicants may not have significant commercial partnerships or hold political office, and participation in the program does not provide for monetary compensation. This initiative has already sparked opposition from journalists’ associations, which typically have exclusive access to the building and fear that their work will be hindered. The Council of the EU has assured that influencers will be accompanied at all times and will not have the status or media rights of accredited media representatives.
