Germany urgently summoned the Chinese ambassador amid rumors of Russian military exercises

The German Foreign Ministry summoned the Chinese ambassador following media reports about possible Russian military training on Chinese territory. Officials in Berlin stated that any support that helps Russia continue its war against Ukraine also poses a threat to Europe’s security.

The German Foreign Ministry held an urgent meeting with the Chinese ambassador. The reason was reports in the international media about the alleged training of Russian troops by Chinese instructors.

According to Reuters, the talks took place after the publication of a report claiming that closed-door training exercises for Russian soldiers allegedly took place in China in the fall of 2025. The agency’s report stated that Chinese instructors may have trained Russian military personnel, and the program itself, according to sources, was approved at the highest military level.

Beijing officially denies these allegations. The Chinese ambassador previously called the reports about the training of Russian military personnel “unfounded” and denied his country’s involvement in such activities. The German Foreign Ministry emphasized that it is closely monitoring any actions that could strengthen Russia’s military capabilities. “Anything that allows Russia to continue its aggressive war against Ukraine also poses a threat to our security,” a Reuters source at the German Foreign Ministry said.

The ministry also added that “China’s resolute and growing support for Russia’s brutal and aggressive war affects our security.” So far, the German side has not disclosed whether it received any further explanations from the Chinese diplomat during the meeting. Details of the conversation itself have not been disclosed either. At the same time, there is currently no official confirmation of reports regarding the training of Russian military personnel in China. Reuters’ reports are based on information from its own sources, while Chinese authorities continue to deny any involvement in the military training of Russian soldiers.

Against the backdrop of Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine, the issue of possible military cooperation between Moscow and Beijing remains one of the most sensitive in China’s relations with Western countries. Berlin has repeatedly stated that it is closely monitoring any steps that could help Russia continue its military operations, according to Reuters.

Authorities in Russia’s Zabaykalsky Krai attempted to temporarily restrict truck traffic through the “Zabaykalsk” road border crossing with China in order to give priority to fuel tankers amid an acute fuel shortage.
