The Czech Republic is adopting Ukraine's experience in air defense and countering drones
Miroslav Hlavač, Chief of the General Staff of the Czech Armed Forces, stated that the country is actively exchanging expertise with Ukraine in the field of defense. The Czech military is paying particular attention to Ukraine’s best practices in air defense and anti-drone defense.
According to him, the experience gained from Ukraine will help the Czech Republic strengthen its own defense capabilities and better prepare for modern military challenges.
In a speech before the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defense, and Security, Hlaváč announced a phone call with the newly appointed Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Ihor Skybyuk. He said the main topic of discussion would be the exchange of experience between the Czech and Ukrainian armies.
“This week, I will hold a video conference with the Chief of the General Staff of Ukraine, during which we will establish certain parameters. And, of course, at the working level, experts and lower-ranking commanders are also exchanging information on the experience of waging war in Ukraine so that we, too, can incorporate some of this experience into our capabilities. The conduct of warfare is constantly evolving, and we cannot remain mute, deaf, and blind,” said the Chief of the General Staff of the Czech Armed Forces.
Hlavach explained that the Czech Republic wants to incorporate Ukrainian experience into its own system for providing protection against drones and developing air defense capabilities. According to him, cooperation with Kyiv also involves the development and tactical management of ground forces and cyber forces.
The official noted that last week he held talks with the Ukrainian ambassador and military attaché, who conveyed their requests for support for Ukraine to the Czech side. This includes assistance in the field of air defense, as well as daily rations and other items needed to support the military.
At the same time, Glavach clarified that any decisions regarding aid to Ukraine must be made by the Czech government. The army will forward the Ukrainian side’s proposals to the Minister of Defense, who will subsequently submit them to the Cabinet of Ministers for consideration.
