The number of people affected by a food poisoning incident at a luxury hotel in Chisinau has risen

In Chisinau, 59 people have already fallen ill following an outbreak of salmonellosis that occurred after an event at the Radisson Blu Leogrand Hotel. Twenty people had to be hospitalized, and laboratory tests confirmed that some of the patients were infected with Salmonella. Experts are still searching for the source of the infection.

Moldova’s National Public Health Agency (ANSP) reported that the number of people affected continues to rise. According to the latest data, 59 people have fallen ill following a large-scale event at the Radisson Blu Leogrand Hotel. Of the total number of affected individuals, 20 required hospitalization. Currently, eight patients remain in the hospital and are continuing treatment.

The agency also reported that laboratory tests have already confirmed the presence of Salmonella bacteria in 13 event participants. “Of the total number of affected individuals, 20 patients required hospitalization, and currently eight of them remain in the hospital to receive medical care. At the same time, according to the results of laboratory tests conducted to date, Salmonella bacteria have been detected in 13 participants,” the ANSP reported.

The agency’s specialists are currently conducting an epidemiological investigation. Their main task is to determine the exact source of the infection and how the mass outbreak occurred. The ANSP noted that test results from hotel staff have not yet confirmed any infection. “Test results for samples taken from staff involved in food preparation and service are negative. At the same time, samples of the food products used, the results of sanitary and hygiene tests, as well as the remaining biological samples collected are still being analyzed,” the agency’s statement reads.

The agency emphasized that it continues to monitor the situation and promises to report the results of the investigation once all examinations are complete. As a reminder, the first reports of the outbreak appeared on June 30. At that time, 13 people were hospitalized at the Toma Ciorba Clinical Infectious Diseases Hospital with a diagnosis of “salmonellosis.” All of them had recently attended an event held at the Radisson Blu Leogrand Hotel—one of the most expensive and well-known hotels in Chisinau.

Hospital representatives and one of the affected individuals confirmed the hospitalizations at the time. Since then, the number of people seeking medical care has increased significantly, and the investigation into the causes of the outbreak is ongoing. This was reported by the ZDG portal.

An outbreak of salmonellosis is being investigated in Chisinau following events held at the Radisson Blu Leogrand Hotel. Twenty-six people were admitted to hospitals, and the disease has already been confirmed by laboratory tests in 12 of them. Among those who sought medical care are several employees of the Moldovan Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
