The EU has imposed sanctions on a theater director in occupied Mariupol

The European Union has added Igor Solonin—the so-called director of the drama theater in occupied Mariupol—to its sanctions list.

The restrictions were imposed as part of the 20th package of sanctions against Russia. The EU believes that Solonin supports policies that undermine Ukraine’s territorial integrity and promotes Russian propaganda.

It is noted that he not only heads the institution but also cooperates with the occupying authorities and receives funding from them.

The EU highlighted the cynicism of using the Mariupol Drama Theater building, which was destroyed by Russian airstrikes in 2022. After the occupation, it was reorganized and is being used to spread Russian narratives, particularly regarding Ukraine’s alleged involvement in the destruction.

In Ukraine, Solonin was previously charged in absentia with collaboration. He is wanted by authorities and faces up to 10 years in prison with confiscation of property.

EU sanctions include the freezing of assets within the Union and a ban on entry into EU countries.

The European Union has imposed sanctions against former world boxing champion Fedor Chudinov for his trip to the temporarily occupied territory of Luhansk Oblast and his participation in events that the EU considers part of propaganda programs.

The European Union has expanded its sanctions list to include Russian individuals and companies linked to supporting the war against Ukraine.
