Estonia will not close its embassy in Kyiv despite threats from Russia
Estonia has stated that its embassy in Kyiv will remain open despite Russia’s threats of possible strikes on the Ukrainian capital. Officials in Tallinn emphasized that the diplomatic presence in Ukraine will continue despite the security risks.
This was stated by Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna.
According to him, Estonian diplomats continue to work in Kyiv, and the country will continue to support Ukraine.
"Threatening diplomats, foreigners, and civilians is unacceptable and a gross violation of the UN Charter. Russia’s attempts to intimidate only reveal its true nature. Estonia will not bow to threats. Our embassy remains open, our diplomats remain in Kyiv, and we continue to stand firmly shoulder to shoulder with Ukraine,” Tsahkna said.
The Estonian foreign minister also noted that Tallinn had conveyed this position to a representative of the Russian Embassy in Estonia.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga thanked Estonia for its support and emphasized that Russian intimidation will not work.
"At a time when Russia is trying to spread fear, Estonia is once again demonstrating moral clarity, courage, and true leadership. Together, we stand firm," Sibiga said.
Russia threatens new strikes on Kyiv
Earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, during a conversation with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, stated Russia’s intention to launch systematic strikes on targets in Kyiv that Moscow considers linked to the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
On May 25, the Russian Foreign Ministry also announced its intention to continue strikes on enterprises of Ukraine’s defense-industrial complex and mentioned possible attacks on “decision-making centers” and command posts.
The Russian statement included a separate warning to foreign diplomatic missions and citizens regarding the need to leave Kyiv.
Andriy Sybiga stated that these threats are primarily aimed at intimidating Western diplomats and Ukraine’s partners.
Despite Russia’s threats, Estonian diplomats are not leaving Kyiv.

Estonia has blamed Russia for the arrival of Ukrainian drones.
A Romanian fighter jet participating in a NATO air patrol mission shot down a stray attack drone over Estonian territory.
Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna, commenting on the incident involving the downing of a drone over the country’s territory, stated that this is a consequence of Russia’s war and provocations. He also emphasized that Ukraine has every right to strike Russian military targets.
