Estonia urges critical assessment of videos about alleged Russian work on the Narva
Estonia’s Police and Border Guard Board urged people to treat critically videos on social media whose authors claim that Russia, an aggressor state, is reinforcing the bank of the Narva River with gravel at the border with Estonia. The agency said it is constantly monitoring the situation on the country’s eastern border.
What is known about the videos
In one video, a man claims that the Russian authorities have dumped gravel along the riverbank for several meters. A Russian flag is also visible in the video. In another video, a woman says access to the shore has been blocked and that swimming in the river is no longer possible.
According to the video authors, the activity is taking place in the Vasknarva area, near the entrance to Lake Peipus on Estonia’s eastern border. A Vasknarva resident told ERR News that he had heard noise from the opposite side of the border for several days. At the same time, he has no visual confirmation of what exactly is happening on the other bank of the river.

Position of the Estonian service
Veiko Kommusaar, deputy director general of the border guard service, said the agency cannot comment on activities on the other side of the state border or on the actions of the authorities of another country. According to him, the service cooperates with other security agencies to have a full picture of the situation.
Kommusaar advised treating emotional or provocative content with caution, as it may be aimed at creating fear, anxiety or uncertainty. He recommended checking the origin of information, seeking confirmation in reliable media outlets and following official statements by authorities.
