Haberman says Trump is not popular in any poll — The Hill

CNN political analyst and The New York Times reporter Maggie Haberman said that US President Donald Trump’s approval ratings are declining in almost all polls ahead of the midterm elections. She said this on The Source with Kaitlan Collins, The Hill reports.

According to Haberman, there are no polls in which Trump is popular. She also said that the president has problems in polling on affordability and the cost of living.

CNN poll data

Collins referred to a new CNN poll, according to which Trump’s net approval rating stands at minus 32 percentage points. For the Republican Party overall, the figure is minus 21 percentage points.

The Hill notes that Trump’s approval rating has fallen to its lowest level during his two presidential terms. The outlet links this, in particular, to Americans’ concerns over rising prices and the war in Iran, which, according to its data, has been ongoing for a sixth month.

Haberman noted that the results of public surveys do not always match the private polls she has seen. At the same time, in her view, the overall picture remains difficult for Trump, especially regarding the cost of living.

Republican strategy

The analyst drew attention to a White House event dedicated to healthcare, during which administration representatives repeatedly spoke about affordability. Earlier, Trump called the issue a hoax that, according to him, is spread by Democrats.

In Haberman’s assessment, Republicans in districts with closely contested races do not want to focus on this topic. At the same time, Trump and the Republican Party leadership seek to make the president the central figure of the midterm election strategy in order to mobilize his supporters. The president urged voters in November to vote as if he were on the ballot.
