Eurovision 2027 will be held in Burgas, Bulgaria

The "Eurovision 2027" Song Contest will take place in the Bulgarian city of Burgas on the Black Sea coast. According to BBC News, the contest will run from May 12 to May 15, with the grand final scheduled for May 15.

Rehearsals, the semifinals, and the final will be held at Arena Burgas—a sports and entertainment complex that opened in 2023. The selection of the city was confirmed by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and Bulgarian National Television (BNT).

Bulgaria earned the right to host the contest after singer Dara’s victory at the Eurovision Song Contest in Vienna in May 2026. Her song “Bangaranga” brought the country its first-ever victory in the contest’s history.

Eurovision Director Martin Green stated that Burgas has a musical and cultural identity, as well as the infrastructure and capacity to host contestants and guests of the contest. According to him, the organizers aim to combine the Bulgarian character of the event with the traditions of “Eurovision.”

The city was selected following a competitive process in which Sofia, Varna, and Plovdiv also participated. Burgas and Sofia advanced to the final selection stage. The evaluation criteria included venue capacity, technical capabilities, hotel capacity, transportation links, and international accessibility.

Earlier, the organizers updated the contest rules. Under the changes, a winning country involved in an armed conflict will not be able to host the “Eurovision Song Contest” the following year. The restriction will also apply if a sensitive geopolitical situation affects the security or stability of the country or its immediate region. According to BBC News, this rule will also apply to Ukraine, which has been resisting Russian aggression following the 2022 invasion by the Russian Federation, the aggressor state.
