The European Commission is preparing a proposal for a complete ban on Russian oil
The European Commission continues to work on a proposal for a complete ban on Russian oil imports into the EU. The document will be presented “at the appropriate time,” said European Commission spokesperson Anna-Kaisa Itkonen, responding to a question from a European Truth correspondent in Brussels.
According to Itkonen, the EU’s goal is to ban all Russian energy products from European markets. “First and foremost, our goal is to ban all Russian energy products from European markets. We are moving confidently toward the successful completion of this strategy,” she said.

Russian oil is already subject to EU sanctions, but Hungary and Slovakia are exempt from the sanctions ban. The spokesperson noted that these countries currently have permission to import Russian oil.
The European Commission is working closely with Hungary and Slovakia to help them diversify their supply sources and phase out Russian oil. As previously reported by “European Truth,” the five largest importers of Russian oil in the world, aside from Hungary and Slovakia, include China, India, and Azerbaijan.
