The European Commission is concerned about the IOC's decision to allow Russian athletes to return
The European Commission has expressed serious concern over the International Olympic Committee’s decision, which paves the way for Russian athletes to return to international competitions. EC spokesperson Anna-Kaisa Itkonen made this statement during a briefing.
She reiterated the European Council’s position from June 18 that, until a just and lasting peace is achieved in Ukraine, there should be no normalization of Russia’s participation in sporting and cultural events.
The publication “European Truth” reported on the European Commission’s position.
Earlier, the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine called the IOC’s decision to allow Russians to compete “shameful.”
Estonia, together with its partner countries, plans to appeal to the European Commission to review funding for sports organizations that support the return of Russia and Belarus to international competitions.
