The U.S. and Iran continued negotiations on the nuclear deal despite mutual attacks

The United States and Iran are continuing technical talks aimed at reaching a final peace agreement, despite the escalation of tensions and large-scale mutual strikes this week.

According to a U.S. official, Washington has not abandoned the diplomatic path, and negotiations regarding Iran’s nuclear program are ongoing.

“The United States remains committed to finding a solution, and technical negotiations are ongoing. Iran will never be allowed to possess nuclear weapons,” said a U.S. administration official.

As noted, the 60-day ceasefire agreement between the U.S. and Iran, signed last month, has come under serious pressure in recent days due to mutual military strikes.

The U.S. official emphasized that the memorandum of understanding and the ceasefire depend on the parties’ fulfillment of their commitments.

“The 60-day ceasefire and the memorandum of understanding are based on compliance, and Iran’s actions constitute a breach of its obligations at an unacceptable level,” he said.

Separately, the U.S. administration representative commented on the attacks on commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, placing the blame for them on Tehran.

“Iran’s attacks on these innocent vessels are acts of terrorism,” the U.S. official emphasized.

Despite the escalating situation, Washington has stated its readiness to continue negotiations, while emphasizing that it will not allow Iran to acquire nuclear weapons.

This was reported by an unnamed U.S. administration official in comments to ABC News.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Arakchi warned the U.S. against further military “adventurism” amid the latest escalation in the Middle East. The Iranian official made the statement on Thursday, July 9, after discussing the current situation with the commander-in-chief of the Pakistani armed forces.

Meanwhile, Israel has provided the United States with new intelligence, which, according to The Wall Street Journal, indicates that Iran may be planning an assassination attempt on U.S. President Donald Trump. The U.S. leader himself also hinted at threats to his life during the NATO summit in Ankara.

As of the evening of July 9, hostilities between the U.S. and Iran were ongoing. On the morning of July 9, the U.S. military struck a strategic railway bridge in the north of the country, which is part of an important international transport route.
