Europeans turn to refurbished laptops amid falling incomes

Due to declining incomes, many Europeans cannot afford new laptops and increasingly opt for refurbished devices, which are gaining popularity across European Union countries, according to analysts from Context. In the fourth quarter of 2025, sales of refurbished laptops in the European market grew by 7%. This growth is attributed to rising prices of new devices and consumers’ desire to save money.

According to Context, refurbished laptops sold through distributor networks saw sales increases in five major European countries: Germany, Italy, the United Kingdom, Spain, and France. A key driver of the growing demand in the secondary market is the affordability of these devices. Around 40% of buyers are willing to spend between 200 and 300 euros on a laptop. Demand in the 300-400 euro price range also rose notably, now accounting for about 23% of the refurbished laptop market, up 8% compared to Q4 2024.

A Context representative stated that the volume of refurbished used devices in the UK doubled in 2025, making the local market the largest in Europe, overtaking Germany.
